Excerpt From Who Will Cheer For The Young Black Girl
Black Jewels Are Forever
Born into life a sin,
Counted out because you didn’t have
a mother and a father to welcome you in,
Blessed by the same Redeemer that
walked the earth 33 years and died for your sins,
Cursed from the mouths of those
that said they believed and would count you in,
Beautiful like a butterfly that has
hatched and is ready to fly, Forbidden the opportunity before your first attempt
to try,
Continuing to honor your essence
because even broken, tired and confused still not defeated,
Forever a black jewel.
